Ryan Lochte Finalizes Divorce, Engaged to New Girlfriend
Ryan Lochte, the former Olympic swimmer, and Kayla Reid have officially finalized their divorce, which followed Reid’s filing last March, as noted in court records.
Recently, Lochte got engaged to his girlfriend, Molly Gillihan, after dating for a year. Now that he is free from his previous marriage, the couple can begin planning their wedding.
Lochte, 41, expressed his excitement, stating, “Finally, my new, improved and complete chapter of happiness begins. Wedding planning starts today.” It’s a fresh start for him, and it sounds like he’s ready to embrace this new chapter.
The engagement took place at the same restaurant in Gainesville, Florida, where they had their first date. It’s a sweet, nostalgic touch, right?
Reid, now working as a real estate agent in Gainesville, shared her feelings about the divorce with the media. “Divorce has been one of the most painful experiences of my life,” she noted. “But it has also revealed strengths I didn’t know I had. I am grateful to be able to move forward with clarity, peace, and great faith in what lies ahead.” It must be tough, but her determination is clear.
Lochte and Reid share three children: Cayden, 9; Liv, 7; and Georgia, 3. Their past relationship hasn’t been without its challenges, as they’ve had several public disputes, often aired on social media.
Reid reflected on her experience in a statement, saying that while divorce isn’t something to celebrate, it can be empowering. “There’s something incredibly empowering about getting through it and realizing you’re stronger than you ever believed you were,” she added. It’s remarkable how tough situations can lead to personal growth.
On Monday, Reid celebrated her legal divorce with a joyful Instagram post, proclaiming, “As of 9:59 a.m. July 1, 2026, I am officially divorced 🙌🏼,” alongside a photo of herself in a stylish yellow dress. A statement like that must bring a mixture of relief and new hope.
In June, she had initially announced their separation, mentioning that her seven-year marriage to Lochte had “irretrievably broken down.” It’s a strong sentiment that resonates with many going through similar situations.
Following their separation, Lochte and Gillihan relocated to Missouri after accepting coaching positions with the Missouri State swimming program. They seem eager for a fresh start away from Gainesville.
Lochte previously expressed his struggles with living in Gainesville, stating, “Gainesville hates me.” He mentioned feeling marginalized by constant bullying, revealing the pressures they faced there.
Gillihan also has three children—two daughters, Leila and Maggie, and a son, Oliver. Blending families certainly comes with its own set of challenges, but it also brings new opportunities for connection.
