Former Teacher Sentenced for Sexual Abuse of Student

A Texas middle school teacher, Adriana Roulin, has been sentenced to over 30 years in prison after being convicted of sexually abusing a 13-year-old student. The jury in Webb County found her guilty of continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14, resulting in a 33-year prison term.

In addition to the main conviction, she received a 10-year sentence for indecency with a child through sexual contact and another 13 years for having an inappropriate relationship with a student. All sentences will run concurrently, and she was also fined $20,000.

This verdict came after a two-day trial in the 341st District Court, where the prosecution presented evidence including text messages, photographs, and videos from six witnesses.

During the sentencing phase, the victim revealed to the jury how the abuse had shattered her friendships and self-esteem, almost leading to tragic consequences. The victim’s mother also expressed her anguish, holding Roulin accountable for her son’s emotional suffering, including depression and anxiety. She emphasized that Roulin’s manipulative behavior could potentially harm other children in the future.

The jurors deliberated for under two hours before reaching their verdict.

The investigation into Roulin began on November 27, 2023, after the victim’s parents alerted the police about a suspected inappropriate relationship at Gonzalez Middle School in Laredo. A forensic examination of the victim’s cell phone revealed incriminating communications, which were crucial for the prosecution’s case.

Roulin was arrested in December 2023 and pleaded not guilty to all the charges. It’s currently unknown if she intends to appeal the sentencing.

Attempts to contact the Webb County District Attorney’s Office and the Unified Independent School District for further comments have yet to receive responses.
