Trey McBride’s Controversial Take on Cardinals Fans
Trey McBride, the standout tight end for the Cardinals, has sparked some chatter with his recent comments about the team’s fan base. He stated quite bluntly, “There are no Arizona fans in Arizona,” during an episode of the podcast “Bussin’ with the Boys.”
His co-host, Taylor Lewan, who’s from Arizona himself, reminisced about seeing Cardinals hats around the time of Super Bowl XLIII in 2008. But, he noted that those hats seemed to vanish afterward, almost like “fairy dust.”
McBride elaborated, mentioning, “It’s like everyone lives in Arizona. No one is from Arizona. Everyone’s coming from other states and moving here, so they’re all fans of their own team.” This raises an interesting point—Arizona is quite populous, yet, perhaps not every resident is deeply invested in the local teams.
It’s true that the Cardinals have struggled to build a strong fan base, largely due to their lack of postseason success. In fact, they’ve reached the playoffs just once in the last decade and have only managed to win two playoff games since their Super Bowl appearance.
Reflecting on the state of things, McBride expressed some hope, stating, “It’s a tough deal, but hopefully we can start winning some games and bring some fans back.” The sentiment is understandable; loyalty often follows success.
On another note, with uncertainties regarding quarterback Jacoby Brissett’s contract situation, there’s a bit of doubt hanging over who will be throwing passes to McBride this coming season.
Lastly, the team made headlines recently when owner Michael Bidwell chose to grant a wedding wish for a bride in New Jersey rather than McBride, which shows just how mixed things can get around the Cardinals.
