See Americans Celebrate in D.C. Streets While Weather Poses Risk to 4th of July

Celebrations Persist Amid Severe Weather in Washington, D.C.

Despite severe weather warnings, thousands of people gathered to celebrate the Salute to America event in Washington, D.C., on July 4th. Video footage showed attendees dancing and enjoying themselves outside as a thunderstorm rolled through.

Federal officials issued evacuation orders on Saturday evening while tourists were partaking in Fourth of July events on the National Mall. However, they later announced that the National Mall would reopen that night after weather-related interruptions to several celebrations, including the Freedom 250 event and the fireworks show.

According to reports, the fireworks display lasted 40 minutes and featured 850,000 fireworks, making it the largest of its kind in U.S. history.

In a social media update at 6:32 p.m., Freedom 250 urged attendees to evacuate and seek shelter in nearby buildings. They listed several locations such as various federal departments and museums as options, advising everyone to remain calm and listen to law enforcement instructions.

The temperature in D.C. hit 102 degrees on Saturday, breaking a record that had stood since 1919. Event organizers later confirmed that the National Mall would reopen at 9:45 p.m., allowing the Salute to America celebration to continue, including a speech from President Trump at 11 p.m. followed by fireworks.

Interestingly, President Trump compared the weather to the conditions faced by American veterans during World War II, stressing he wouldn’t let bad weather stop him from delivering his speech.

In a sign of community spirit, many people found shelter inside a U.S. Department of Agriculture building and began singing the national anthem.

“America, it’s time to celebrate,” said Freedom 250 spokesperson Daniel Alvarez. He emphasized that regardless of the weather, Americans deserved a celebration for the historic 250th anniversary. For 250 years, resilience and determination have characterized the American spirit, and a bit of rain wouldn’t take away from the pride and patriotism felt on this significant day.
