Neymar mocks Norway's goalkeeper in a heated conclusion to his World Cup journey

On Sunday, Neymar Jr. expressed his disappointment after Brazil’s narrow escape against Norway in the finals.

The Brazilian star converted a penalty in stoppage time before colliding with Norwegian goalkeeper Orjan Nyland during their match at MetLife Stadium, which, notably, marked Neymar’s final game for Brazil.

Following the 2-1 defeat to Norway, Neymar announced his retirement from international football.

Neymar skillfully placed the kick into Nyland’s left side, and then, almost instinctively, he approached the keeper grinning and laughing.

It wasn’t immediately obvious what Neymar was saying to Nyland, but there was some apparent banter as the keeper nudged him. Even after stepping back, Neymar seemed to taunt the Norwegian a bit more.

In the match, Norway claimed victory over Brazil with two late goals from star striker Erling Haaland, while Neymar spent significant time on the sidelines.

Brazil’s manager, Carlo Ancelotti, opted to leave Neymar on the bench due to tactical considerations, even though he was fit after recovering from previous injuries at the start of the tournament.

Neymar came onto the pitch in the 68th minute and remained for the duration of the game.

There were some tense moments during the match, especially when Neymar received a yellow card after a heated altercation stemming from an offensive play.

After the loss, he needed comfort from his teammates right there on the field.

When the final whistle blew, Neymar knelt on the ground, visibly emotional, as several teammates rushed to console him.

With Brazil facing high expectations from fans hoping for their first World Cup win since 2002, the pressure was palpable going into the tournament.

In his post-match comments, Ancelotti touched on Brazil’s prospects moving forward, noting, “It’s clear we have challenges in midfield, and it’s essential for new, talented young players to step up. There are promising young talents in Brazilian football who could potentially make their way into the national team.”
