Director Jeff Schaffer believes Rob Reiner's final performance as George Washington in Larry David's HBO show produced by Obama serves as Reiner’s 'last laugh' at Trump.

Rob Reiner’s Last Role in Larry David’s HBO Show

Director Jeff Schaefer has commented that Rob Reiner’s portrayal of George Washington in Larry David’s HBO show, produced by Obama, will serve as Reiner’s opportunity for a “last laugh” against Donald Trump.

Tragically, Reiner, along with his wife Michele, passed away late last year. He filmed this final role just a month before his death in a historical sketch comedy series titled Life, Rallies, and the Pursuit of Misfortune.

Details about Reiner’s appearance were kept under wraps until the second episode aired on July 3, which has been reported by various sources.

Director Schaefer expressed that this role allowed Reiner a fitting comeback against Trump. He remarked, “This film is set for release over the Fourth of July weekend, and if it disrupts any sad reflections for octogenarians, so be it!”

In a pivotal scene, Washington, as played by Reiner, declares he won’t pursue a third term and highlights Congress’s authority to prevent presidents from overstaying their welcome.

David’s character responds to this statement with, “What would you do if you had a bunch of jerks and narcissists in power who disregard the Constitution?”

Reiner’s Washington underscores the need for peaceful changes in power, to which David’s character counters that a future president who can’t accept an electoral defeat is essentially a “sociopath” and “an unstable, lying cheat at golf.”

David further adds, “He could leverage his presidency for personal gain and deploy troops in American cities, causing chaos to divert attention from his associations with, well, questionable individuals.”

Jimmy Kimmel is also set to appear, asking the future president if he would bother to challenge someone mocking him.

The characters’ debate heats up, eventually culminating in a physical altercation. As a final note, Reiner’s Washington poignantly concludes, “We’re screwed,” and the episode wraps with a tribute card commemorating the late actor and director.

This show, streaming now on HBO Max, is a further illustration of how Trump was a lingering presence in the thoughts of Hollywood’s elite even after his passing.
