At 41 years old, LeBron James remains an NBA free agent this summer.
However, teams trying to land the star player find themselves “in the dark,” as they haven’t received any updates from James or his representation, according to ESPN Insider Brian Windhorst.
This free agency has been a hot topic since James informed the Lakers he would leave after eight seasons—the longest stretch he’s spent with one franchise in his career.
Rich Paul, his agent, has stated that James is open to signing with a team at the league’s minimum salary as he seeks fulfillment during the later stages of his career. With retirement possibly on the horizon, each decision in free agency takes on added significance.
Reportedly, there are six teams interested in James, but recent updates indicate a lack of communication with any of these contenders.
The Philadelphia Sixers, Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, Denver Nuggets, Golden State Warriors, and Minnesota Timberwolves are among those expressing interest.
The free agency journey has been both intriguing and enigmatic for James. Last week, Paul mentioned potential candidates for James on his “Game Over” podcast, where he noted a total of ten teams listed on a whiteboard.
Interestingly, Paul revealed that had James not clinched the NBA championship last season, he might have signed with the New York Knicks. Lately, it seems James’ list of potential suitors has diminished, and his silence during this offseason speaks volumes about his mindset.
