Angel Mom Cheryl Minter Calls for Accountability from Fairfax DA
Cheryl Minter, known as an “angel mom,” has voiced strong criticism of Democratic Rep. Steve Descano from Fairfax. Her outcry focuses on what she describes as Descano’s lenient approach to crime, especially regarding illegal immigrant offenders. In an emotional testimony, she recounted the tragic murder of her daughter by a suspected illegal immigrant, one of over 30 individuals previously arrested for various crimes. Minter urged Virginia’s authorities to change their protective policies and to improve collaboration with ICE.
During the recent Fourth of July weekend, federal immigration officials were busy making arrests across the U.S., capturing numerous illegal immigrants involved in serious crimes such as murder and child sexual offenses. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) revealed on Monday that these operations took place as people celebrated the nation’s significant anniversary.
“While the nation celebrated its 250th anniversary, the dedicated agents of ICE were apprehending some of the most dangerous criminals, including murderers and sexual predators,” remarked Lauren Biss, the Acting Assistant Secretary at DHS. “Our officers are committed to community safety, even during holidays.”
Biss highlighted that the increase in agency resources, including 12,000 new staff under President Trump, has significantly bolstered ICE’s operations. “Thanks to the efforts of this administration, we are making strides towards ensuring safety for the American populace,” she added.
Among those arrested were individuals like Radimir Thompson Nagle, who had a history of murder and assault, and was apprehended in Brooklyn. Others included Marcos Rubio Hernandez, a Mexican national convicted of second-degree murder and kidnapping, and Roberto Gutierrez Diaz, who had serious sexual offenses against minors in Kentucky.
Additionally, Francisco Olmedo Silva and Pedro Masora-Herrera faced multiple drug-related and violent crime charges, underscoring the breadth of offenses addressed during these sweeps.
As the Trump administration persists in its crackdown on criminal illegal immigrants, DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin condemned sanctuary policies that he claims undermine public safety. Referring to Fairfax County, which has resisted transferring illegal immigrants to ICE, he noted, “Sanctuary city officials who put criminals before their own citizens pose a national security risk.”
