As the Kremlin continues its assault on major Ukrainian cities, a Russian plane accidentally bombs a village in the country's Voronezh region.
The fighter jets were reportedly forced into an “emergency ejection” while flying over the Russian village of Petropavlovka on Tuesday after a crossfire.
“At around 9 a.m. on January 2, an air force aircraft was flying over the village of Petropavlovka in the Voronezh region when there was an emergency release of aviation ammunition,” the Russian Ministry of Defense announced, as translated by the Moscow Times. . .
Petropavlovka is located approximately 153 miles east of the Russian-Ukrainian border.

“An investigation into the circumstances of the incident is underway. A committee is working on site to assess the nature of the damage and assist in the repair of the building,” the MoD said.
The Moscow Times reported that at least six buildings were hit, although the Ministry of Defense claimed there were no casualties from the accidental blasts.

“I have ordered my colleagues in the Voronezh regional government to quickly address issues regarding the payment of compensation and the construction of new housing,” Voronezh Oblast Governor Alexander Gusev said, according to a translation. “Our commitment is to make sure no one falls through the cracks.”

As the conflict nears the end of its second year, Russia continues to bombard Ukraine's two largest cities with hypersonic ballistic missiles.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that four civilians had been killed in airstrikes on the main cities of Kiev and Kharkov. A further 92 people were injured.
Russia on Friday launched the largest missile attack on Ukraine since the start of the war, killing about 41 civilians. Since then, there has been a continuous barrage.
