Hand grenade found inside walls of Dallas home during renovation

A Dallas-area home renovation project turned out to be more successful than anyone expected when an unexpected item – a military grenade – was discovered inside a wall.

According to the White Settlement Police Department, officers responded to a call shortly after 4 p.m. on New Year's Eve after the new owner discovered what appeared to be a military-style grenade inside a home that was being renovated.

Officers said residents immediately adjacent to the property were evacuated out of an abundance of caution.

The Fort Worth Fire Department's Arson and Bomb Investigation Team quickly arrived at the home and secured the device.

Police said a team determined the grenade contained no explosives.

The device was picked up by the Fort Worth Fire Department and all nearby residents were allowed to return to the area.
