To all the Democrats rooting for Maine Secretary of State Shena Bellows, who removed Donald Trump from the ballot, we have to ask: Did you forget Katherine Harris?
In 2000, Florida's then-Secretary of State halted a recount of Florida's presidential votes, confirming George W. Bush's victory over Al Gore.
Indeed, throughout Election Day and the recount, furious Democrats slammed Harris over various decisions, even though she said she was fulfilling her “duties under Florida law.”
That's the same as Bellows saying her actions were “required by Maine election law.”
Gore spokesman Chris Lehane called Harris “a stooge of the Bush campaign.”
“Saturday Night Live” slammed her for a mean skit that made fun of her appearance.
Democrats in the bubble cried out a “constitutional crisis.''
In fact, Harris' decision has stood the test of time. A media recount of all Florida ballots ultimately determined that Bush did indeed carry the state.
But it is certainly understandable that Democrats were furious that a minor state official could decide the presidential election.
Yet they are promoting Bellows as a hero here. Because they like what she's doing, just as they cheered the Colorado Supreme Court's decision that defeated President Trump.
As the Constitution itself states, any enforcement of the “insurrection” clause federal government Case.
Allowing minor state officials to seize that power will lead to chaos and the death of democracy. Because Shena Bellows has Katherine Harris.
