NHL team calls out Toronto Sun for headline slighting goalie after record night: ‘Be better’

Dostal, who started in place of John Gibson, who was out with an illness, set a Ducks franchise record by saving 55 of 57 shots on goal in Anaheim's overtime loss. Toronto Maple Leafs.

“Whether it’s 20 shots or 40 shots. [game]At the end of the day, I'm just trying to make sure I stop every puck,'' Dostal told reporters in the locker room after the game.

“That's my job. I don't really care about how many shots I get.”

Apparently, Dostal's big night wasn't enough to earn him recognition in the Toronto Sun headline.

The headline, “Auston Matthews saves the day in OT against unknown goaltender against Maple Leafs,” caught the attention of the Ducks' social media team, and X's post sent the media into a frenzy.

“His name is Lukas Dostal. He made 55 saves last night. NHL Rookie of the Month Award October,” the post reads, adding: “Be better, @TheTorontoSun.”

Dostal led the league among rookie goaltenders last month, winning four of five games and was named Rookie of the Month.

Despite the minor injury, Dostal received overwhelming praise from his team and coaches.

“He was great,” forward Isaac Landerstrom said. “I'm really happy for this kid because he's always working hard.”

“Dostal kept us there, and it's a shame we didn't win,” coach Greg Cronin said. “He's great. He's fast. When he's out and attacking, he's an aggressive goalie and he's tough to beat.”
