President Joe Biden was interrupted and heckled by pro-Palestinian activists as he attempted to call for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip on Monday during a campaign speech at Mother Emanuel American Methodist Church in Charleston, South Carolina. It was done.
Biden had sought to use the scene of a racially motivated mass shooting in 2015 to rally supporters against President Donald Trump, a potential Republican rival. Although it had nothing to do with the incident, there were already attempts to link President Trump to the shooting incident.
But Biden was interrupted by rabid anti-Israel, pro-Palestinian hecklers.
“If we truly value the lives lost here, we should respect the lives lost and call for a ceasefire in Palestine,” Yaji said. She was followed by a chant: “Cease fire now!”
The crowd drowned them out, standing and shouting, “Four more years!”
As the unrest continued, Biden tried to calm the demonstrators.
“I understand their passion. I have been working secretly with the Israeli government to get them to reduce their withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, to withdraw significantly. I am doing everything in my power to do that. .”
The crowd applauded.
One supporter shouted: “They don't realize — you're a good person!”
A ceasefire would allow Hamas to take control of the Gaza Strip and deploy terrorist weapons against Israeli civilians. It would also allow terrorist organizations to continue holding more than 120 Israelis hostage under harsh conditions, in violation of international law.
Mr. Biden continued his disparaging remarks against Mr. Trump, lamenting the “insurrection” of the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot. “He's a loser,” Biden said of his rival.
He went on to talk about the history of slavery and the creation of a federal holiday in 2020 to commemorate June 1, the day traditionally celebrated for emancipation from slavery.
Biden's use of the Charleston church to imply that his opponents are racist echoes an old refrain Biden has employed in the past, including when he took office in 2012. It's a familiar tactic. Said Mitt Romney claimed to “put everyone back in chains” in Virginia's black audience.
Ironically, Biden supported racists as a senator and voted to restore U.S. citizenship to Confederate President Jefferson Davis and Confederate General Robert E. Lee after their deaths.
But Biden is concerned about growing black support amid declining overall polling.
He recalibrated the Democratic presidential primary to make South Carolina, a predominantly black state, the first primary on the calendar, rather than the fourth primary after Iowa, New Hampshire and Nevada. He reminded the audience what he had done.
