An Arizona homeowner with a gun told police he spotted an intruder in his backyard in Buckeye just after midnight Sunday and ordered him to leave, but the intruder walked toward the homeowner and then ran into the home. The suspect shot and killed the intruder.

police Said Just before 2:30 a.m., officers received a report of shots fired at a residence near 237th Street and Mojave Avenue. According to police, when officers arrived, the man was trying to leave the house with his hands up, so officers subdued him.
When officers searched the home, they found a bleeding man in the backyard with a gunshot wound to the chest, police said.
Police said the homeowner, who is in his 30s, told investigators that he and his family were asleep when the doorbell rang.
The homeowner told police he grabbed a handgun and looked out the front window, adding that he didn't see anyone.
