President Trump on Tuesday denounced reports of an affair with Jeffrey Epstein and the convicted sex trafficker after images of the pair created by artificial intelligence (AI) were leaked online. He claimed he had never been on a plane or on “Stupid Island.”
“This is what the Democrats are doing against a Republican opposition that Democrats have an overwhelming lead in the polls. This is AI and it is extremely dangerous to our country!” President Trump posts on his truth social site. “I wasn't on Epstein's plane or on his 'stupid' island. We need strong laws against AI. AI is going to be a big and very dangerous problem in the future. ”
The former president included the following screenshot Daily Mail article The report details how actor Mark Ruffalo apologized for posting an AI photo of the former president and Epstein on a plane.
The comments also come in the wake of the recent unsealing of court documents relating to Epstein's decades of sexual abuse. The announcement made public about 150 people who were included in previously redacted portions of a settled civil lawsuit against Epstein's ex-girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell.
The names of influential people previously associated with Epstein (who died in a Manhattan prison in 2019), including Prince Andrew, former President Clinton and Trump, were named in the document, but there are no known names. Very little information was provided.
The Daily Mail article highlights Ruffalo's posts about Trump's potential ties to Epstein, and notes that Ruffalo didn't know the photo was AI-generated when he first posted it. Admitted.
“Disgusting. #MAGA wants to paint everyone on the plane as pedophiles except for one smiling man in a group of young girls heading to Epstein's 'Fantasy Island' together.” I’m thinking about it,” Ruffalo posted on Platform X, formerly known as Twitter, on January 4th. “My bet is that there are some decent Republicans left in America who may think this is going too far.”
X readers used their social media app's fact-checking feature to provide context that the image was generated by AI.
“Sorry, everyone. Apparently these images are AI fakes.” Posted on January 6th. “The fact that Trump was on Epstein's plane and what Epstein was up to is not true. Be careful.”
“Elon's X and the amount of disinformation he has allowed here has caused the value of his app to drop by 55%,” he added, blaming owner Elon Musk.
The release of the documents has fueled further speculation about who may be named as a possible “co-conspirator” in Epstein's decades-long abuses. His ex-girlfriend Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year sentence for aiding and abetting a former financier.
