Russian court tosses class-action case against TV presenter who threw ‘almost naked’ party

A Moscow court on Wednesday dismissed a class action lawsuit seeking $11 million in emotional damages against a Russian TV host for hosting a party where guests were encouraged to show up wearing almost nothing. .

The case against Anastasia Ivreva was part of a scandal that erupted after her party at a Moscow nightclub last month. A famous rapper who attended a ceremony wearing only one sock on his genitals and two socks on his feet has been sent to prison.

The public condemnation of the party comes amid President Vladimir Putin's accusations of Western countries seeking to undermine “traditional values,” and amid heightened nationalism amid Russia's war in Ukraine. It reflected the rise of emotion.

Ivrieva's invitation to the party said the dress code was “mostly naked.” Photos from the party went viral on social media. Conservative lawmakers and bloggers sparked a storm of criticism, saying the images were not only unsightly for a country embroiled in war, but also unpatriotic.

In response to the outrage, several prominent figures in Russian pop culture issued public statements asking for permission to attend the celebrations.

Rapper Vasio (real name Nikolai Vasiliev) was sentenced to 15 days in prison and a fine of 200,000 rubles (approximately 2.2 million yen) for disorderly conduct for allegedly spreading “LGBTQ propaganda” in a video. He was scheduled to be released on Saturday, but was sentenced to his second 10-day jail term.

Members of Russia's Public Oversight Committee said this week that he had been summoned to report to a military recruitment center.

The Moscow District Court dismissed the case against Ivreva on jurisdictional grounds, saying there was no record of her residence in the region.

It is unclear whether the plaintiffs will seek to file suit elsewhere.

The lawsuit seeks to pay damages to a fund that supports soldiers fighting in Ukraine.
