Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese has revealed details about his new film about Jesus, saying he has completed the script and plans to shoot it in late 2024.
Last summer, Scorsese said he became inspired to make a film about Christ after meeting with Pope Francis at a film event in Italy.
Director Scorsese said: Los Angeles Times In an interview published this month, he said he was collaborating with critic and director Kent Jones. They are “swimming in inspiration,” he says.
This movie is based on Shusaku Endo's book “The Life of Jesus,'' which was published in 1978.Endo co-wrote the 2016 film. silenceIt told the story of Japanese missionaries.
“I'm trying to find new ways to make religion more accessible and remove some of the negative burdens that come with organized religion,” Scorsese told the Times.
He said the film will be set in “mostly modern times,” but “Scorsese doesn't want it to be tied to any particular era because he wants it to be timeless,” the Times reported.
“He envisions a film that will run about 80 minutes and focus on the core teachings of Jesus in a way that explores principles but does not proselytize,” the Times said.
Scorsese pointed out that many people reject religion.
“When you say the word 'religion' now, everyone is up in arms because it's failing in so many ways,” Scorsese said. “But that doesn't necessarily mean the first impulse was wrong. Let's go back. Let's think about it. It's okay to refuse. Don't dismiss it lightly. That's all I'm talking about. I'm saying this as someone who will be 81 years old in a few days. Are you sure you understand what I'm saying?”
