The International Court of Justice is preparing to hear a case concerning the South African government's claims that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza.

On Wednesday, Israeli government spokesman Eilon Levy referred to South Africa's claims as a “despicable intervention to save the skin of Hamas's rapist regime.”

He also said the charges were hampering efforts to bring hostages home, protect civilians and prevent the conflict from escalating.

“We, the State of Israel, will not be distracted as we continue to pursue these important goals,” Levy said. “We, the State of Israel, will not be distracted from continuing to pursue these important goals.”

The World Court is scheduled to hold hearings on South Africa's claim on Thursday and Friday.
