NYPD detective with 6-figure salary arrested, accused of swiping $160 in merchandise from Home Depot

A New York City detective was arrested over the weekend on suspicion of shoplifting from a hardware store in Deer Park, New York.

Christina Cancel, 54, of Hicksville, New York, was arrested and charged with stealing approximately $160 worth of merchandise Saturday afternoon, according to Suffolk County Police.

Cancel was employed as a police detective specialist with the New York City Police Department and earned more than $155,000 in 2023, according to See Through NY.

According to Suffolk County PD, Cancel is accused of stealing $130 worth of merchandise around 10:15 a.m. Saturday, and another suspect who stole $30 worth of merchandise around 11:50 a.m. the same day. was charged with a crime.

Police did not say what type of merchandise Cancel allegedly stole.

Police added that she was also charged with forgery for allegedly providing a false name and date of birth to a police officer.

She is scheduled to return to Suffolk County Court on Jan. 26, according to New York state court records.

NYPD officials did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's inquiries about the criminal expert's arrest.

This isn't the first time a cancellation has been embroiled in legal trouble.

She was charged in 2015 with using another officer's password to search the department's database for personal reasons, according to police records. She was also charged with failing to report an incident that occurred while off-duty, resulting in a police response.

Cancel was ultimately found guilty and had his 10 days of leave revoked.
