Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis has said that if a border deal is reached between House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) and Democrats, and he is elected to the White House in November, They claimed that it would become invalid upon arrival.

“Well, if I were president, I would be dead on arrival,” Florida Governor DeSantis said. He told Fox News' Laura Ingraham on Friday. “You know, some Republicans are too out of touch with their voters.”

Prime Minister Boris Johnson told reporters on Friday that negotiations had been hard-fought but a “strong top-line” agreement had been reached. Both conservatives and many Democrats were unhappy with the spending allocated to security the U.S.-Mexico border.

Democrats rejected Johnson's calls for tougher border security measures, including building a new border wall and reintroducing former President Donald Trump's “remain in Mexico” policy that required asylum seekers to remain in Mexico during their processing. did.

Republicans said they opposed any new aid to Ukraine unless border measures were also included in the bill. Despite the opposition, the chairman said the deal would stand, as a partial government shutdown looms next week with no alternative.

DeSantis spoke from Des Moines, Iowa, just days before the 2024 caucuses, touting his campaign accomplishments in each of the Hawkeye State's 99 counties. The governor also claimed he knew what Republican voters would throw at him regarding the border.

“Republicans want to deport illegal immigrants, and we need to do that. They want to end these insane border policies that Biden has.” “Yes, they want a wall, and they want that to happen, and they also want action against drug cartels.”

“And what you're likely to see in this deal is a typical Lucy with a football, promising that she's going to deal with the border, and then of course the football will be pulled away and it'll be the same old song. “And dance,” DeSantis continued, quoting a scene from the “Peanuts” cartoon.

The Republican candidate said the government must “put the American people first” and argued that if migrants “continue to arrive at our southern border,” we “will lose this country.”

He has previously said that if elected president, he would declare a state of border emergency and ban all illegal immigration. He also promised mass deportations of immigrants if elected, saying, “All immigrants must come home.”
