Attorney George Conway said Friday on MSNBC's “The ReidOut” that he believes supporters of former President Donald Trump are part of a “narcissistic” cult that goes beyond reason and facts.
Anchor Joy Reid said, “You know, Donald Trump is not a politician. He's just a stand-in for people who are angry at the world. He convinced them there was a danger. He stole those classified documents. He sexually abused E. Jean Carroll. He lied about the election and committed crimes because people were stupid. He did it and somehow managed to convince all these millions of people that that was their real problem.”
Conway replied, “Yes, I mean, this is a cult. That's what it comes down to. The Republican Party is beyond the realm of reason. Neither reason nor facts matter to the Republican base. It's just a giant fantasy that Trump is competent, good, innocent, and liked by everyone else.
“And reverent,” Reid said.
Conway said, “And you who are godly, don’t forget.”
Reed said, “If it's not God Himself.”
Conway said, “That's right. Anything that contradicts this, no matter how true it is, whether it's an indictment or what we hear on tape, we just change the channel.”
He goes on to say, “I think it's a kind of narcissistic desire to be different from humans. People feel inadequate, they feel imposed on them. , makes him feel as if he's part of something bigger. And he swallows them all up, and if anyone objects to that, they get very, very defensive, Because some of them really know deep down that they are being deceived and deceived. They can't admit it, so they dig deeper and reveal more facts and reality. And that's the stage that most of the Republican base has reached.”
