On Friday on Fox News Channel's “The Ingraham Angle,” Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) rejected Senate Republican leadership negotiating with President Joe Biden on border security.
The Utah Republican suggested the border issue is being used as “bait to extort” Republican funding from Ukraine.
“My response is that there is no need to proceed as if this agreement is being negotiated or has anything to do with the president's lack of executive authority as if there is a border crisis brewing in the United States.” said Mr. Lee. “Look, current law gives President Joe Biden more than enough power to police the border, stop this crisis, and stop the 300,000 people who entered the border illegally in the last month alone. 300 or so terrorists who have come across the border just in the US. It is written in , meaning it is discretionary. You don't have that right. ”
“Whenever we get stuck, the solution is to stop processing asylum seekers and not just say, 'Okay, you can come in, we'll buy you a ticket to the United States from anywhere.' ” he continued. “What concerns me most about this proposal, and this whole negotiation, is that it falsely suggests that a border crisis exists and continues because there is not enough legislative authority. That's true. And on the other hand, what President Biden and Mitch McConnell and a few others want to do is use the promise of border security provisions as bait to steal and extract Republican votes to help Ukraine, and they They want to pass a $106 billion package, most of which will go to Ukraine. They don't have the votes. So they're promising border security. If we wanted to implement border security, we would have implemented border security a long time ago, and we could have done so under current law.”
