Border Patrol Chief Responds to Schumer’s Comments
Former Border Patrol Chief Constable Gregory Bovino has expressed his dismay after Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) stated during a late-night debate that no one in America respects the Border Patrol or ICE. Bovino shared his thoughts with Breitbart Texas, suggesting that Schumer’s remarks reflect the ideals of the Democratic Party.
During this debate, Schumer opposed Senate Republicans’ attempts to fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and prevent a government shutdown. He stated, “America is crying out for relief from high costs, and here we are adding $140 billion to Border Patrol and ICE, two agencies that no one respects in this country.”
Bovino found it shocking that Schumer vocalized his sentiments so openly, commenting that the senator aligns himself with radical groups that oppose federal employees tasked with enforcing laws passed by Congress. He added, “He is no different from the mob throwing bricks at us.”
Having retired in late March, Bovino led significant immigration operations across major U.S. cities. In his three decades of service, he noted that he had never seen one political party so openly hostile to law enforcement.
“This sentiment isn’t just Schumer’s. He represents nearly every Democrat,” Bovino remarked. “We witnessed similar violent opposition at the city and state levels while working to reduce crime in sanctuary cities.”
The former division chief voiced concerns that such dangerous rhetoric could elevate the risks faced by Border Patrol and ICE officers as they enforce U.S. immigration laws. “Schumer’s words resonate with extremists who may feel encouraged to increase attacks on our agents,” he warned.
The National Border Patrol Council (NBPC), which represents rank-and-file agents, criticized Schumer’s comments in a social media post. They defended their members, stating, “Far-left apologist Chuck Schumer has chosen to attack and undermine Border Patrol agents and ICE agents, disrespecting those who risk their lives for public safety.” They emphasized that the real issue lies not with the agents but with politicians like Schumer who cater to extreme liberals.
Bovino echoed this sentiment, saying, “Our agents don’t create laws; they enforce them under challenging and dangerous circumstances. Politicians like Chuck Schumer are responsible for the very laws they chastise.”
Following Schumer’s remarks, President Trump took to Truth Social, stating, “Wow! Chuck Schumer, crying, says to the whole world, ‘Nobody respects border security or ICE.’ This is one of the most egregious, inaccurate, unpatriotic, and dangerous statements I’ve ever heard from a ‘professional’ politician. He must apologize to these great patriots immediately, and I want it now!”
