Republican presidential candidate and former Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R-Ark.) said Sunday on CBS' “Face the Nation” that former President Donald Trump “misled” Republican voters about Jan. 6, 2021. '' he said.
Anchor Margaret Brennan says, “Donald Trump has reshaped your party. How do you define your supporters?”
Hutchinson said, “First of all, you're right, he redefined the Republican Party, and not in a good way. It's about drawing attention to the fact that we have a weak candidate going forward. I think the CBS poll you cited today reflects that. The person who should enjoy this poll is Joe Biden. And Trump has a huge lead in the primaries.”
He added: “My responsibility and the other candidates' responsibility is to fight the front-runner if you don't agree that he's right. We've done that, so there's a cost in the short term. Maybe, but there is a limit to long-term fear, fear-mongering, and discontent. So this is a sign that candidates will weaken as this election year progresses. Therefore, this voice is very important to not mislead voters, to warn people that January 6th was a patriotic act. This is an if attack on the Capitol and the rule of law in Congress, and Donald Trump -We cannot accept misleading statements from Trump.”
