When a South Carolina man realized his dog was about to be attacked by a coyote, he took action to save the pup's life.

According to a WCBD report, Timothy Snipe of Mount Pleasant was walking his dog Roxy when the pup turned toward the woods and started barking, but both Snipe and the dog were concerned about the danger lurking within the tree line. He said he didn't notice it.

“She started barking and I wondered what she was barking at,” Snipe told the magazine.

However, Snipe soon discovered a coyote attempting to attack the small dog, which Roxy seemed oblivious to at the moment. Immediately the dog took off in pursuit of the coyote.

“Instead of running towards me, she ran towards the coyote,” Snipe said.

What unfolded from there was captured by a nearby Ring doorbell camera as Snipe rushed into action to save his little buddy.

“The coyote jumped on me and bit my leg, so I ripped it off and strangled it,” Snipe said.

Mr Snipe said he was able to control the animal by grabbing it by the tail and placing it in a trash can until help arrived.

On the other hand, he believes that without his quick actions, his dog would not have been successful.

“I thought even if she got bitten and got rabies or something, she might have been okay. But if she got bitten, it was over,” Snipe said.

Snipe was subsequently treated and received nine rabies shots to replace the bite on his leg. Still, the dog's owner was in good spirits and said she planned to put Roxy's coyote vest on her before going out in the future.

Despite the bite, Snipe said he would do the same thing again to protect his dog.

“Once you have a pet, they're automatically part of the family, this is my girl, this is our girl,” Snipe said.
