Biden tells Sharpton he’s running because of Trump’s anti-democratic statements

President Biden told the Rev. Al Sharpton on Monday that former President Trump's “anti-democratic” comments motivated him to run for a second term.

“What made you decide to run for re-election?” Sharpton asked Biden in an interview. sharpton radio show “Keep It Real'' “What was it that was really closed off in my head when I said, “I can't go anymore''?'' Do I have to do this for another four years? ”

“What President Trump is saying. President Trump is saying some crazy things,” Biden responded during an appearance on Sharpton's show on the national holiday honoring Martin Luther King Jr.

“He is the most anti-democratic president in American history. What he says. And he means them. He says he's running to take revenge on the people,” Biden said. He talked about Trump. “It's just outrageous.”

The president pointed out that his “anti-democratic” label referred to the country's institutions, not political parties.

Biden is running for re-election to the Oval Office in 2024. As the leading Democratic candidate, she is headed for a possible rematch in the 2020 race against Trump, the Republican presidential front-runner.

The incumbent has faced intense scrutiny and criticism over his decision to sit the court for another four years, with critics citing low polling numbers and concerns about Biden's age. Mr. Biden is 81 years old and will be 86 by the end of his second term, while Mr. Trump is only a few years younger at 77.

The Biden-Harris team ignored poll numbers at this point in the election cycle and emphasized that the president's performance speaks for itself. Mr. Biden and his allies have warned against Mr. Trump's re-election and are sounding the alarm about the threat to democracy.

Biden's comments about Sharpton came on the same day as the Republican Iowa caucuses, which begin the party's nomination cycle. Trump heads into the race with a double-digit lead in the polls, but his rivals Nikki Haley and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis are vying to break into his momentum. .
