Iran claims responsibility for strikes near US consulate in northern Iraq

Iran claimed responsibility for the missile attack. Explosion near the US Consulate Monday in Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdish region.

Iran's Revolutionary Guards said it targeted a “spy headquarters and a cluster of anti-Iranian terrorist groups” near Erbil, Kurdistan's capital and most populous city.

The attack killed four civilians and injured six more, according to the Kurdistan Regional Government's Security Council.

U.S. officials told The Associated Press that no U.S. facilities were attacked or damaged.

Iran claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it attacked the headquarters of Israel's intelligence agency Mossad.

In a separate simultaneous attack, Iran's Revolutionary Guards said it also struck a “terrorist operation” involving Islamic State targets in Syria.
