VIDEO: Bystander nails would-be robbers with bear spray after they crash a car into pot shop in Washington state

Surveillance video shows the group driving into the store in an attempt to rob the store, but then fleeing in a hurry after a bystander sprayed them with bear spray.

Video footage showed a group of hooded individuals lining up their cars outside Marijuana Club 99 in Everett, Washington, around 3 a.m. Monday.

owner ryan johnson told KOMO-TV He was alerted by the building's alarm and witnessed someone crashing a car into his store.

Minutes later, they dispersed after another man rammed into their car and chased them out of the store and back into their car. One car sped away, colliding with the other car and nearly overturning it.

The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office said officers believe the car was stolen. No arrests have been made.

Bystanders were able to scare off the would-be robbers, but they caused extensive damage to the pot shop. According to the owner, this is the first time he has been robbed at gunpoint, but he has been robbed at gunpoint five or six times.

Johnson said the man works nearby and would offer a reward if he thwarted the attempted robbery.

“He's a great guy, and I'm very grateful to him,” Johnson said. “He's going to get paid for it. It's amazing that he was able to come out of here and stop this thing so quickly.”

He added that without real punishment as a deterrent, robberies will continue.

“They're going to be in a bad situation. They're probably going to die because there's a lot of business owners that have firearms inside their stores,” Johnson said.

“It's only a matter of time before they die or end up in jail,” he concluded. “They should think twice about what they're doing.”
