The NFL Players Association announced that former New Orleans Saints linebacker Ronald Powell has passed away. He was 32 years old.
The cause of death has not been disclosed.
“Today we mourn the loss of Ronald Powell, a father, brother, and son who was loved and cherished by so many. We send our comfort to all who knew Ronald.” The NFL Players Association's retired player account wrote to X.

Powell was also remembered by former teammates who remembered him not only as a player but also as a father. Junio Garrett, who played with Powell at the University of Florida, joined the X to pay his respects to his fallen teammate.

Powell played for the Gators from 2010 to 2013. The Saints selected him in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. After appearing in 14 games during his rookie season, Powell was released at the beginning of the 2015 season and ultimately placed on injured reserve.
Following his time in New Orleans, Powell also played for the Bears and Seahawks, but never played for either team.
In 2019, Powell attempted to return to the Federation of American Football, but was released before the league went out of business.
