Kensington Palace said the Princess of Wales was being treated in hospital after undergoing surgery on Tuesday and is expected to remain there for up to two weeks.
Catherine, 42, was admitted to the London Clinic in Marylebone for planned abdominal surgery, but no further details were released.
She has not been seen in public since attending the royal Christmas church service at Sandringham with her children.
The Palace said it would not share her personal medical information in the public domain.

The princess kept an extensive diary in December and did not appear to be feeling unwell during her public appearances.
She will remain at a private hospital for 10 to 14 days before returning home to continue her recovery.
Based on current medical advice, the princess is not expected to resume royal duties until after Easter, the palace said in a statement posted on social media.

The royal couple will not be traveling overseas for the next few months.
The Prince of Wales is expected to postpone a number of engagements to support his three children.
After being discharged from hospital, he is expected to recover at home in Windsor, where the Welsh couple and their children Prince George (10), Princess Charlotte (8) and Prince Louis (5) currently live, the BBC reported. report.
