Former President Donald Trump will easily defeat former Gov. Nikki Haley in the Granite State, Establishment New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu (R) predicted Wednesday, with Haley a “strong second place.” He said he only wanted the same result.
Sununu's comment was echoed by Haley, who said, defeatTrump in New Hampshire:
- “Nikki Haley … could hand Trump a defeat that no one thought possible in the coming weeks. And I think it's very likely that that will happen,” Sununu said in December.
- “Oh, this is an absolute victory…If everyone who could vote in the primary went to vote, she would win by a landslide. That's not an exaggeration,” he said in December.
- “I think she's going to win here in New Hampshire,” he said in January.

After months of insisting that Haley would beat Trump, Sununu released what ABC News' Rick Klein called a “massive downgrading of Haley's expectations.”
“We always wanted to have a strong second. That's the only expectation we laid out there,” Sununu said. Said ABC News Wednesday.
Sununu's comments shocked political experts because of the amount of support Haley received from her donor base. Robert Schwartz, co-founder and establishment member of the Primary Pivot super PAC, sought to “damage” the Trump campaign by mobilizing Democrats and left-wing independents to vote for Haley.

In recent weeks, Primary Pivot PAC has sent out 150,000 direct mailers urging anti-Trump voters to “defend democracy.” It also raised $650,000 last month to spend on anti-Trump messages.
Mr. Schwartz's PAC is just one organization targeting Mr. Trump. Additional anti-Trump PACs include “Tell It Like It Is” and “Granite State Votes” are both working overtime to defeat Trump.
Despite support from the establishment, vote I don't support Haley's victory.According to Thursday's Suffolk/NBC-10/boston globe Haley remains more than 10 points behind in the Granite State, according to the NH Tracking Poll.
- Trump: 50 percent
- Haley: 36%
- DeSantis: 6%
Flashback — Sununu: Trump is in 'troubles' in New Hampshire, voters are flocking to Nikki Haley:
“She's late,” Michael Biand, a longtime New Hampshire Republican strategist and senior adviser to Mr. Ramaswamy, told NBC News. “And canceling the debate and treating New Hampshire like it's just one of the Super Tuesday states, not the first in the nation, which she is, I think is a huge mistake. I think. We have a different mindset here,” he added.
Sean Van Anlen, who declined to endorse Haley, told NBC News that Haley's campaign is not seriously considering winning Tuesday. “Haley seems to have given up,” he noted.
