House Committee Republicans Unanimously Support Mayorkas Impeachment

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is one step closer to being impeached.

All 18 Republicans on the House Homeland Security Committee voted Thursday to recommend to the House that Mayorkas be impeached.

The vote came at the end of a public hearing entitled “A Voice for the Victims: The Heartbreaking Reality of the Mayorkas Border Crisis.” At this hearing, parents testified about the loss of their children to fentanyl flowing across the Southwest border and the crimes committed by those who came here. He was illegally under Mayorkas' surveillance.

Republicans on the committee said in a statement:

After nearly a year of investigation and subsequent impeachment proceedings, and after exhausting all other options to hold Secretary Mayorkas accountable, Congress has exercised its constitutional obligation to hold Secretary Mayorkas accountable. It is absolutely clear to all of us, and to the American people, that this must be impeached. The Secretary has consistently and intentionally and systematically refused to abide by the laws passed by Congress, abused his authority, and repeatedly betrayed the trust of Congress and the American people. Secretary Mayorkas' failure to fulfill his oath of office resulted in a border crisis unprecedented in American history that claimed the lives of thousands of Mayorkas's fellow citizens.

The hearing was the second held by the committee as part of Mayorkas' formal impeachment investigation. The investigation comes after a year of investigation and multiple public hearings into the border crisis caused by the embattled Mayorcas.

A deliberate and systematic refusal to abide by the laws passed by Congress encouraged unprecedented levels of illegal immigration. The Republican committee, led by Chairman Mark Green (R-Tenn.), accused Mayorkas of refusing to cooperate with the investigation and denying him the opportunity to testify.

The Democratic Party formally objected. requesting The opportunity to have a public hearing with your own witnesses is extremely rare.

The White House responded to Thursday's vote: suggest Mr. Mayorkas, he argued, had more important priorities than a speech to Congress that threatened to make him the first Cabinet member since Ulysses S. Grant to be impeached.

The House could consider impeaching Mayorkas as early as the week of January 22nd.
