Prosecutors said Thursday that a New Jersey police officer spent more than $35,000 that was mistakenly deposited into his bank account.

On Tuesday, Atlantic City Police Officer Laquay DuBose, 37, was charged with third-degree theft after a bank mistakenly deposited a $100,000 check into his account and then spent the money. announced the authorities.

The deposit was made on March 21, 2023. A few days later, on March 27, bank employees realized the mistake, withdrew the funds and closed the officer's account.

But his spending resulted in $35,903.17 being debited from his account, prosecutors said.
