DeSantis joins House GOP calls for Mayorkas impeachment

Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis has joined House Republicans in calling for the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

“Yes, Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas should be impeached,” DeSantis said. Posted Saturday on Platform X, formerly known as Twitter. “Mr. Mayorkas ignored his oath of office and the Constitution by allowing 8 million illegal aliens into our country. One of the reasons we have such a bad outcome in Washington is because no one is held accountable. !”

House Republicans began a series of impeachment hearings against Mayorkas last week. A Homeland Security Committee hearing last Wednesday focused on the “havoc” the Biden administration's immigration policies have caused in the United States.

Chairman Mark Green (R-Tenn.) said at the hearing that Mayorkas was “the architect of the devastation we have witnessed for nearly three years.”

“What we're seeing here is a deliberate violation of his oath of office,” he added.

House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-Texas) said Mayorkas could be impeached “by the end of the month.”

“If you look at the Founding Fathers, when they talked about impeachment, they were talking about abuse of power and dereliction of office…President Mayorkas rescinded Remain in Mexico on day one,” McCall said. He referred to the Trump administration's policies that forced He is seeking asylum as he awaits processing in Mexico.

“That means that instead of arresting, detaining and removing illegal aliens, they released them into our society by reintroducing catch and release,” he added. “This has caused pernicious harm to the fabric of America.”

DeSantis has previously said that if elected president, he would send troops to the southern border and authorize military personnel there to use deadly force against drug cartels.

“We are 100 percent committed to having troops on the border,” he said in September.
