Man falls through lake, gets rescued by his dog and cop

This dog met the day to save his owner.

A Michigan man was rescued after falling into an icy lake after a quick-thinking police officer called in the man's dog for help.

On January 18, a 65-year-old man fell through the thin ice covering Arbutus Lake in Grand Traverse, Michigan, and bystanders called 911. According to state police.

The man was trapped in cold water, only his head and shoulders sticking out above the ice, and his faithful dog stood next to him.

Michigan State Police Trooper Cameron Bennett was unable to contact the man due to the dangerous conditions and first tried to throw him a rope connected to a rescue plate.

When that failed, the officer decided to seek help from the man's furry companion.

“Send your puppy here. Will she come to me?'' he yelled to the man, who told him his dog's name was Ruby.

Ruby: “Come here! Come here, Ruby!” Bennett screams in body camera footage of the rescue.

He then heard Mr. Bennett whistle at the animal, and the animal ran towards him, wagging its tail.

The officer tied a rescue disc to Ruby's collar and asked the man to bring his four-legged friend back.

When she returned to her owner, Bennett ordered the man to remove the disc.

“Kick your feet and get your feet above the water!” the officer commands.

Mr Bennett is then seen dragging the man to the surface of the lake and onto the ice.

Bennett and firefighters from the Grand Traverse Metro Fire Department were then able to grab the man's arm, which was still tied to a rope.

The man was taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment, but was later released.
