Phillips is challenging Biden in the Democratic primary, making New Hampshire his best chance. Biden opted to sit out the state's primary altogether after New Hampshire refused to cede its first primary slot to South Carolina.
Biden supporters are organizing a write-in campaign to prevent Phillips from winning, but he has said he still wants to secure at least 20% of the vote.
“Unfortunately, it shows that the incumbent president is unelectable and weak and can actually deliver on the promises that have been made for generations,” Phillips told reporters at a campaign event. “I think it's going to show the country that we have a candidate here.”

While Yang praised Biden, he said ultimately the party will have a hard time “reinventing Grandpa.”
“He's a substantive, accomplished president. I campaigned for him in 2020. I supported him,” Yang said of Biden. “He's a good man, a true public servant, and a great American. He was the right candidate four years ago. He's not the right candidate in 2024.”
