A Wisconsin police officer has been suspended after being charged with a number of disturbing counts of child abuse, including strangulation.
Frank Williams, 30, was charged with felony child abuse, suffocation and strangulation, according to FOX 6 Milwaukee. He was arrested Thursday morning.
The officer was recently suspended from the Milwaukee Police Department over the accusations. He reportedly worked in the department for more than seven years.
According to documents obtained by FOX 6, police received a call about an injured child being hospitalized at Children's Wisconsin Hospital in the city.

Speaking from the emergency room, the child said Williams “intimidated” her with a belt.
During the initial investigation, authorities observed “seven to eight distinct brown and reddish bruises on (the child's) left thigh,” according to the criminal complaint.

In a forensic interview Thursday, the child said Williams punished him for staying up at a time when he was supposed to take a nap.
The victim claimed Williams hit her with a belt and also strangled her with his hands. The child told investigators that the physical abuse had occurred before.

“Milwaukee Police Department holds all of its members to the highest standards of integrity and will hold members accountable when they violate our code of conduct,” the department said in a statement to Fox News Digital. “He has been permanently suspended. His internal investigation is pending.”
