New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu (R) accused former President Trump of having “no energy” ahead of Tuesday's Granite State primary.
Sununu, who supports Nikki Haley, told CNN's Jake Tapper that the former U.N. ambassador has momentum to do well in the New Hampshire primary, where she is Trump's only remaining major challenger. Told. She also took aim at the former president, who faced backlash after appearing to confuse Haley with former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) at a campaign event last week.
“So it's all about turnout,” Sununu said on CNN's “The Lead.” “It's all about enthusiasm. Where's the energy? Reply to things like online text messages, not just what people say on the phone and what you know.”
“What really matters is the energy in that campaign. Trump has no energy. He can barely read a teleprompter right now. All the wind is behind Nikki's sails. So I think the sky's the limit. I think there is,” Sununu added.
Sununu has frequently filled in for Haley, who is expected to pull off an upset win at state this week. He also noted that former Republican presidential candidates Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum and Sen. Tim Scott (R.C.) have endorsed the former president in recent days. I also responded.
Sununu said Haley didn't want support from her former rival anyway.
“Nikki Haley doesn't want to support the establishment,” Sununu said. “She doesn't want any of it. She really doesn't. Look, Trump has gone from…a subversive to this establishment guy. He's never held the Senate accountable. Nikki Haley wants term limits. She says no one should get paid unless they actually do the work.”
Trump leads Haley by nearly 14 points in New Hampshire, with 50.6% approval rating, according to The Hill/Decision Desk polling average. Haley trails the former president with an approval rating of nearly 37%.
