Jets split with Taylor Embree as possible replacements emerge

If Breece Hall is going to reach his goal of becoming an All-Pro runner in 2024, he'll do it with a new coach.

The Jets have parted ways with Taylor Embry and the search for a new running backs coach has already begun, the Post confirmed.

Embry coached the position for three years as a member of head coach Robert Saleh's original staff, and the two then overlapped for three years as assistants with the 49ers.

According to ESPN, Panthers assistant head coach and running backs coach Deuce Staley met with the Jets last week for a position on their staff, with Titans' Tony Deuce taking the vacancy after serving as tight ends coach last season. He plans to have an interview for the purpose.

Staley, a former 1,000-yard rusher for the Eagles, is also reportedly a candidate to coach the Browns' running backs.

Duce has ties to the Jets' staff as a former colleague of passing game coordinator Todd Downing and offensive line coach/run game coordinator Keith Carter, both of whom were with the Titans.

Dewes served as running backs coach for leading player Derrick Henry from 2018 to 2022, the best season of his career.

Hall has developed into one of the NFL's best running backs in his two years under Embree, coming back strongly from a torn ACL suffered as a rookie and coming close to 1,000 yards this season with 4.5 yards per carry. I reached the goal.

When the 2023 Pro Bowlers were announced, Hall declared on X: “I'll tell you guys in 2024, I'm going to be a top running back. I'm going to be in the Pro Bowl. I'm going to be an All-Pro. And that's going to continue for years after that.”

Embry and then-Jets running back Michael Carter got into a televised sideline altercation during the Week 3 loss to the Patriots.

Carter, who was released late in the season, explained after the game that it was just frustration on the field boiling over, saying Embry was “a big factor in why I became a Jet player.” This is the table for me in the draft. ”

As the rest of the NFL coaching staff takes shape around the remaining five head coaching vacancies and more assistant positions become available, the Jets could make further changes, especially on offense.
