NBA free agent Kevin Porter Jr. reached a plea deal Tuesday in Manhattan over an altercation with his girlfriend.

Porter, 23, pleaded guilty Tuesday to misdemeanor assault and harassment violations after an incident at a Manhattan hotel in September.

Porter was arrested at a hotel near the United Nations after New York City police officers responded to a complaint of assault and arrested the 23-year-old, according to ESPN.

The incident reportedly involved Porter's then-girlfriend, former WNBA player Kaisle Gondrezczyk.

Prosecutors said Mr. Porter left Mr. Gondreczyk bleeding and suffocating him, and that Mr. Porter broke his neck, which were false.

Gondreczyk even said in November that Porter “never” hit her.

Porter must complete a 26-week abusive partner intervention program or equivalent program with a private counselor. She must also comply with a limited protection order, attend all court appearances and avoid further arrest.

If Porter complies, prosecutors said, he could drop the assault allegation within a year, at which point he would be sentenced on the non-criminal harassment charge, effectively erasing his criminal record.

“This resolution allows Mr. Porter to shelve this case involving false felony allegations and false facts and move forward without a criminal record,” Porter's attorneys, Philip Jobe and Stephanie Kelemen, said in a statement. It will be possible.”

Porter was a member of the Houston Rockets at the time of the incident. He was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder in October, but was immediately released. He remains a free agent.
