Vinegar is one of the few ingredients that can be consumed not only for its health benefits, but also in unique and practical ways, such as in household cleaners.
When it comes to health benefits, apple cider vinegar in particular is talked about by many health experts.
Apple cider vinegar (ACV) is made by fermenting crushed apples in combination with yeast and bacteria.

During your doctor's visit, you may have been advised to drink ACV daily or weekly for various health reasons.

What types of vinegar are there?
Distilled white vinegar, balsamic vinegar, rice vinegar, wine vinegar, apple cider vinegar, and malt vinegar are all different types of vinegar.
Vinegar is commonly used to add flavor to foods such as salad dressings, mayonnaise, and marinades, and to pickle foods.
ACV is a vinegar widely known for its potential health benefits and is often consumed as a beverage to aid digestion.
What is apple cider vinegar good for?
Several studies point to two main health benefits of ACV. Weight loss and lower blood sugar levels.
“ACV is a source of prebiotic fiber that feeds the gut bacteria,” RDN master's student Cristina Palmisano told FOX News Digital.
Based in Ohio, Palmisano is a functional integrative nutritionist at Being Functional Nutrition.
“When gut bacteria are well-fed, they develop beneficial properties that support improved digestion and overall health,” she said.

When it comes to ACV for weight loss, this ingredient can help break down food.
“To help break down food, especially carbohydrates, I recommend dissolving 1 tablespoon in a glass of water twice a day at the beginning of each meal,” says Certified Holistic Wellness Counselor and Whole Foods Chef Mia Stern told Fox News. Digitized in 2017.

According to Healthline, there are some short-term studies that support the idea that consuming ACV increases satiety and may help with weight loss.
It's also very low in calories, with only about 3 calories per tablespoon. You only need one tablespoon per day to see the potential health benefits of consumption.
In 2018, a study was completed by several scientists to further elucidate whether vinegar affects blood sugar control.

“ACV contains acidic acids that help your muscles take up glucose,” Palmisano says. “So drinking 2 tablespoons of ACV in 6 to 8 ounces of water before a high-carbohydrate meal can help reduce the spike in blood sugar after a meal.”

If you have diabetes, consult your doctor before incorporating apple cider vinegar into your diet on a regular basis. (St. Petersburg)
The study results were published online in the Journal of Evidence-Based Integrative Medicine. In this study, a reduction in average HbA1c (average blood sugar levels over the past 2 to 3 months) was observed after 8 to 12 weeks of vinegar administration, but the long-term results were less pronounced.
It is generally safe for people without diabetes to take small amounts of ACV for health benefits. If you have diabetes, it is important to consult your doctor before incorporating vinegar into your regular diet.
What is the “mother” in ACV?
“The mother is composed of yeast and bacteria that are formed during the fermentation process necessary to produce ACV,” Palmisano said.
“Whether the mother consumes it or not, ACV provides a variety of health benefits related to things like digestion and gut health,” she concluded.
How should I incorporate apple cider vinegar into my diet?
ACV can be incorporated into your diet in a variety of ways. Mix 1 tablespoon of vinegar with water and rehydrate as usual.
“I love using it in homemade salad dressings,” says Palmisano.
“An easy recipe for homemade salad dressing with ACV is 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil, 1/4 cup ACV, the juice of half a lemon, 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard, and 2 tablespoons lemon zest.”
