White House Press Secretary John Kirby seemed surprised Tuesday when Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy asked him basic questions about the border crisis.
On Monday, the Supreme Court This happened with a 5-4 decision. Border Patrol agents could cut the razor wire that Texas installed on its southern border to quell illegal immigration. The Biden administration celebrated the decision, even as it acknowledged the barrier worked.
At Tuesday's press conference, Doocy wasted no time trying to understand why the Biden administration was celebrating the decision so openly.
“Why make it easier for people to enter the country illegally?” Doocy asked.
Mr. Kirby seemed perplexed by the question, insisting that the government was not making it easier for immigrants to enter the country illegally. Mr. Doocy then clarified why he asked this question. By suing Texas over razor wire, the Biden administration is sending a signal that it doesn't want a border wall. Meanwhile, Kirby said the lawsuit is meant to help the Border Patrol carry out its mission.
“But keep going,” Kirby snorted.
“Well, we won in court, but what do we do now?” Doocy followed.
Kirby couldn't speak for several seconds at that simple question. He was clearly confused by the question and clearly wasn't prepared for a response. Doocy eventually broke the awkward silence by asking Kirby a simple question.
Border Patrol union president says Supreme Court ruling will “certainly encourage further illegal immigration.” Do you know more about the Border Patrol? ” Doocy followed.
But Kirby could only repeat the Biden administration's talking points. “Razor wire prevented Border Patrol agents from performing their duties.” However, the administration has not provided any evidence to substantiate this claim.
Later in the briefing, Doocy asked Kirby yet another quick question. “Does razor wire work?” But Kirby refused to answer that, instead blaming Republicans for the Biden administration's continued inability to stop the immigration crisis.
