Australia v West Indies: second Test, day one – live | Australia cricket team

Kraigg Brathwaite calls the coin correctly and decides to have first use of the facilities. The pitch isn’t as green in hue as it looked a day or so ago. He’ll be willing his side to knuckle down and post a competitive first innings score, give the Aussies something to think about.

Hello and welcome to the OBO of the first day of the second Test between Australia and West Indies. Who’s ready for some pink ball action at the Gabba? Well Pat Cummins’ side, that’s who. It’s been a golden year for Cummins and his men and one more victory in this Test will see a 5-0 scoreline returned in the home summer and the World Test Champs’ wagon will keep on rolling.

A spirited West Indies side stand in their way, perhaps some inclement weather too, although the forecast has improved a smidge in the last day or so. The pitch had a green tinge a few days out and when the lights crank into action a bit later on it could be lots of fun… for the bowlers.

Australia have an impeccable record in day/night Tests – they have won all eleven matches they have played with the pink ball, If West Indies are to challenge the Cummins juggernaut then they will have to improve with the bat and hope their bowlers can do the business in the gloaming, the heartening performance (and incredible story) of Shamar Joseph in Adelaide the blueprint to follow in Brisbane. I’ve got a feeling this is going to be a corker, fast and fun.

important events

6th over: West Indies 9-0 (Brathwaite 4, Chanderpaul 5) A one-handed slice-through point gave Chanderpaul three runs. Hazlewood tests the middle of the pitch and Brathwaite gets in behind him well and the ball comes steeply to Splice.

5th over: West Indies 6-0 (Brathwaite 4, Chanderpaul 2) Chanderpaul takes a compact drive to the offside and is just one stroke behind Starc's third over. Stark whips him back over the outside edge.

Please bring me Ferrero Rocher – OBO don Rob Smith is calling the early knock between India and England on the other channel. knocking That's true. From the corner of my eye, I can see Crowley and Duckett tapping in Hyderabad. yes I'd love to have a quick chat…as long as you promise to come back – I have a feeling this event will pick up steam quickly.

4th over: West Indies 5-0 (Brathwaite 4, Chanderpaul 1) Australia burned the review hoping Brathwaite would be tickled by the side of Alex Carey's leg off Hazlewood. No dice – the ball clipped the hip, not the blade. Chanderpaul opens his account with a taut edge on the leg side. The visitors are fidgety for now, but they are unharmed.

3rd over: West Indies 4-0 (Brathwaite 4, Chanderpaul 0) Brathwaite played and missed another full ball, then edged off a back-of-length ball but missed third slip. Stark sews up the maiden – His pink ball record is exemplary: 61 Wickets @ Rick 18+. Later, when the floodlights come on, he will lick his lips again.

2nd over: West Indies 4-0 (Brathwaite 4, Chanderpaul 0) Crepes! Josh Hazlewood's first ball was smashed into Brathwaite's front pad. distributed It was called by the field referee, but the call was overturned. There was a significant inside edge. It got off to a tense start for both visitors and those involved. My oh my. On the next ball, Brathwaite goes for a mighty drive, but it only connects with the Brisbane wind. Please calm down now. A clip to his leg got the Windies skipper a couple and he stuck it to mid-on to keep it for a single strike. The ball will zip off the surface, don't go anywhere.

In one shocking incident already, Hope Shahid Saikat has completed a strong Test as the first Bangladeshi umpire to appear in a Test in Australia and the second international umpire overall #AUSvWI

I was a little shocked. You probably know that referees have nerves and emotions too.

Update date and time

1st over: West Indies 1-0 (Brathwaite 1, Chanderpaul 0) There was quite a bit of action from the get-go as Stark built up steam with the afternoon sun on his back! A pink ball extends like a hoop and is decorated along its entire length. Brathwaite whipped it to the offside for a single and Chanderpaul got through the rest of the probe. This is not easy for visitors.

Play is coming soon. just Now it's time to brew something dark and caffeinated. Here in the black molasses of south London, the clock reads 4am. Mitchell Starc has shiny pink orbs on his southpaw…

Players appear on the outfield at the Gabba for the national anthem – Poor Cameron Green tested positive for COVID-19 but is still allowed to play, albeit distanced. Enter your joke here.

Big first time is approaching for Kraigg Brathwaite, the captain will soon be leaving with opening partner Tajnarine Chanderpaul and will be hoping to lay a solid foundation. I really enjoyed this footage of him getting into the zone last night.

Reading before first ball:

Please allow the self-bottle opener. I'll be right back under my bushel. Shamar Joseph's story is one to be savored and his debut performance in Adelaide last week was an emotional one.

Joseph's journey to that moment on the green grass of Adelaide Oval is almost unbelievable. This is a kid from the small village of Barakala in the deepest reaches of Guyana. The population of about 350 people was isolated from much of the wider world until five years ago, when mobile and internet adoption began. When Joseph was a kid, he happened to see Carly Ambrose and Courtney Walsh doing it on a black-and-white TV, and it changed his life.

Of course it wouldn't happen right away, but the game was in his hands. If you've ever imagined tossing an apple from a fruit bowl, holding onto a skier at the SCG, or passing a nectarine from one hand to the other like Shane Warne at the top, then… You know what happens. . Joseph bowled anything he could get his hands on. At first it was lemons, limes, and guavas, but later it became an impromptu game using balls made from tightly wrapped tape. ”

team: Australia remained unchanged, with Kevin Sinclair making his Test debut against the West Indies.

Toss – West Indies win the toss and bat first

Kraigg Brathwaite correctly calls the coin and decides to be the first to use the facility. The pitch is not quite as green as it looked a day or so ago. He will be happy for his team to give it their all and post a competitive score in the first innings to give the Australians something to think about.

Hello. Welcome to his OBO for the first day of the second Test between Australia and West Indies. Who's ready for some pink-ball action at the Gabba? Well, Pat Cummins' side, that's who. This year has been a golden year for Cummins and his men. Another win in this Test would bring the 5-0 scoreline back into the summer at home and keep the World Test champions' wagon rolling.

A lively West Indies side stands in the way and there is probably some bad weather in the forecast, but the forecast has looked a little better over the past day or so. For a few days the pitch has taken on a green tint, but when the lights come on a little later it will be a lot of fun for the bowlers.

Australia have an impeccable record in day-night Tests – they have won all 11 matches they have played with the pink ball. West Indies need to improve with the bat if they are to take on Cummins' giants and hope their bowlers can achieve that. Business in the Dark, Shamar Joseph's encouraging performance (and incredible story) in Adelaide set the blueprint for what would follow in Brisbane. I have a feeling this will be a fast and fun coker.

Jim will be here to call the first session and give you some news about the team and toss right away for a little while. 2pm local time / 3pm AEDT, match starts in just over 30 minutes. If you have any thoughts, theories, or general thoughts, please contact me. Let's get addicted!
