On Capitol Hill on Wednesday, a group of conservative senators argued that the deal would not solve the border crisis and could make it worse.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) suggested that Republicans working on the deal were more focused on including aid to Ukraine's war effort than on actually addressing the border crisis. .
Cruz also stressed that Joe Biden is not taking full advantage of the laws already at his disposal and accused Democrats of wanting open borders.
“If Democrats were interested in fixing the border, they would already be fixing the border,” he said.
Republican senators also expressed doubts about whether the deal would pass the House. Rick Scott of Florida State said the lower chamber believed he was “dead on arrival.”
