“We cannot allow unlimited immigration across our border,” Rep. Jim Himes (D-Conn.) said Thursday on MSNBC's “Katie Toole Report.” That's not acceptable. We see it here in New York City. ” “Uncontrolled immigration puts downward pressure on wages,” which is the only problem Republicans have with President Joe Biden.
Himes first said that many Republicans don't want a border deal because they “realize the border is the remaining political issue against Joe Biden.”
host Katie Toole then asked. “I was talking to a black Democrat in Chicago who said he's a Democrat, but he's actually going to vote Republican because he's frustrated and angry with the way Democrats are doing things.'' When it comes to border control and the benefits and assistance immigrants are getting, she says the black community has been asking for help for decades and always being told there's no money. So she feels there's an imbalance there, and I've heard that from other people in different cities. Will Democrats do that? How will Democrats respond to voters who say she's gone?”
Himes replied: “Well, I've been in politics for a while now, and I often hear about different issues, when people are concerned about a particular issue in Israel/Gaza. They say that's what they're going to do in the next election. Now, what's going to happen is that in November, it looks like it's going to happen, Donald Trump is going to come out and disrupt and attack women's reproductive rights. Democracy, and Joe Biden, you saw the numbers today, economic growth of 3.3%. In contrast, you're not choosing perfection, you're choosing two people. You are choosing between.”
Mr. Toole then interjected and asked if he had any messages regarding immigration.
Himes replied: “So let's focus on immigration for a second. We want to trade. We can't have unlimited movement across borders. That's not acceptable. We see that here in New York City. It's That's not acceptable. Therefore, we need to control our borders. And certainly, uncontrolled immigration puts downward pressure on wages, so I can understand why people are opposed to this idea for a variety of reasons. is there to make a deal, again, don't take that away from me. I heard the president say in the cabinet room, “I'm going to do big things.'' If a deal doesn't happen, it will be the fault of Republicans in the House and Senate. ”
