Donald Trump leads Nikki Haley by 27% in first South Carolina poll

Former President Donald Trump is on track to score another double-digit victory over rival Nikki Haley in 2024, according to the latest polls – this time in her home state of South Carolina.

Mr. Trump, 77, has 58% support among likely voters in the Palmetto State Republican primary on Feb. 24, according to a survey by American Promise and the Tyson Group.

Ms. Haley, 52, was supported by 31% of respondents, while 11% said they were unsure who to support.

Trump leads Haley among all politicians and age groups sampled, with the exception of self-identified Democrats, with 49% saying they support Haley and 49% saying they support the former president. Only 5% did.

More than two-thirds (68%) of respondents said they had a favorable view of President Trump, and 44% said those views were “very favorable.”

In contrast, only 56% said they had a favorable opinion of Hailey, and just 23% said their opinion of her was “very favorable.”

The economy and immigration are by far the top issues for South Carolina voters, with 66% saying the former is one of their top two issues, and half say the same about “fighting illegal immigration.” I answered.

Haley will enter the South Carolina race after finishing third in Iowa behind President Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, and losing New Hampshire to the 45th president by 11 points.

Friday's poll was the first major study of the Southern primary released since New Hampshire's results.

Haley faces an uphill battle to win in her home state, where she faces more than 150 current and former senators, including Gov. Henry McMaster and Sens. Tim Scott and Lindsey Graham. Members of Congress support Trump.

Haley insisted she didn't need the support of “political elites” and blamed her lack of support on previous actions to hold South Carolina's government “accountable.”

Meanwhile, Trump touted Haley's local support and invited his South Carolina supporters to attend a rally in New Hampshire with him to send a message to his rival.

“Nicki loves talking about cognitive impairment on the campaign trail, but if she thinks she'll be competitive in her home state of South Carolina in just a month, she should take a hard look at herself and her life choices. . Name one state that Nicky could win. There's no such thing,” said President Trump's press secretary, Stephen Chan.

Haley's campaign did not immediately respond to inquiries from the Post.

The online poll was conducted among 543 likely Republican primary voters between January 24 and January 26, and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 percentage points.
