A jury has returned a verdict in E. Jean Carroll's civil defamation lawsuit against former President Donald Trump. The jury was 45th The president will pay Carroll $18.3 million in compensatory damages and an additional $65 million in punitive damages for “defamatory public statements” he made about her in 2019.

A jury of seven men and two women reached a verdict within three hours.
In May, a jury found the former president liable for the assault in a civil case brought by author E. Jean Carroll. Carroll claimed that President Trump raped and assaulted her in the 1990s. She also claimed that President Trump defamed her when he went public with her accusations in 2019.
The jury was tasked with determining whether the leading Republican presidential candidate assaulted and defamed Carroll. They ultimately found Trump liable for defamation and assault.
However, they also found him not guilty of the rape charges.
Carroll was ordered to pay $5 million in restitution for battery. Mr. Trump must pay this amount in addition to the $83.3 million.
