California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) on Friday insisted that former President Donald Trump will be more “unperturbed” than ever as former President Donald Trump and former President Biden become more likely to rematch in November. He lashed out at the president.
“He's unbeatable in the primary, but when it comes to the general election, the general election, he's the most flawed candidate I've seen in my lifetime,” Newsom said. in an interview With MSNBC's Alex Wagner. “He's damaged goods.”
He added, “He's not as funny as he used to be. He's more free-spirited, more extreme, and definitely more dangerous on all issues than ever.”
The Golden State governor also attacked Congressional Republicans earlier this week for bowing to President Trump's policies on the southern border.
“I think what the Republican Party is doing, what Donald Trump is doing, is shameful,” Newsom said Thursday in a separate interview with Wagner. “And this is hidden in plain sight. He sent out tweets and truths saying, 'Kill me.' And these people are very weak. This Republican Party is pathetically weak. ”
Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) told his fellow Republican senators on Wednesday that passing border security reform along with aid to Ukraine is becoming more difficult than initially expected. He also noted that it may be impossible to overcome the former president's hostility to any border security agreement.
McConnell is also the person who proposed splitting funding from border security reform to Ukraine.
“Mitch McConnell, I thought it was shameful that it was reported,” Newsom said. “He's just completely rolled over and surrendered.”
“Don't bring up the weaknesses of the current Speaker of the House,” Newsom added, referring to Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana). “So they don't want an agreement. Full stop.”
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) said in a letter to colleagues on Friday that if reports about the terms of the deal are accurate, the border security and Ukraine aid bill would be “void upon arrival” in the House. ” would have been.
“Since the Senate does not appear to be in agreement, I wanted to provide a quick update on supplements and borders,” he wrote. “If the rumors about the contents of the draft were true, it would have been dead on arrival in the House of Commons anyway.”
