Former Trump attorney slams Habba after defamation verdict: ‘I would regret having her’

Former President Trump's lawyer Alina Haba spoke out in an interview on CNN on Friday after a jury ordered the former president to pay $83.3 million in damages to author E. Jean Carroll. criticized.

“I'm going to regret letting her represent me,'' Tim Parlatore said. Said CNN anchor Caitlan Collins. “So I think he was basically defenseless in both of these trials. And I think he could have had a different outcome.”

The former president slammed the jury's decision against Truth Social, which received the order, and said he would appeal.

“Absolutely ridiculous! I completely disagree with both rulings and plan to appeal the entire Biden-led witch hunt focused on me and the Republican Party,” Trump wrote. “Our legal system is out of control and is being used as a political weapon.”

“They took away all of their First Amendment rights,” he added. “This isn't America!”

A jury found last year that Trump sexually abused Carroll in the 1990s. U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan ruled in September that President Trump had defamed Carroll. The latest court case determined the amount the former president owes the writer.

The lawsuit centered on written statements given to reporters and Southlawn comments the former president made in 2019, when Carroll publicly accused Trump of sexual abuse.

When Collins asked Parlatore whether the former president should “reconsider” having his current legal team or Haba represent him on appeal, Parlatore said he should.

“Certainly you should not have the same attorney who tried the case handle the appeal,” Parlatore said. “Well, that's generally not recommended, because the lawyer who tried the case is going to have a lot of personal biases about how he tried the case.”
