South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R) on Sunday praised CNN anchor Dana Bash for defending President Joe Biden over the border crisis.
On CNN’s “State of the Union,” Bash asked Noem about the ongoing negotiations toward passage. controversial border bill Republicans believe it will do little to stop the border crisis. Biden over the weekend promised a shutdown border only if Congress passes the bill.
However, the bill is unlikely to pass the Senate as more Republicans oppose it. This opposition gives Democrats a talking point to take on Republicans, and Bash laid it out in her interview with Noem.
“Why wouldn’t you accept ‘yes’ as an answer?” Bash asked, referring to Biden’s willingness to sign the bill.
In response, Noem correctly pointed out that Biden doesn’t need a bill to solve the border crisis. She explained that Congress already gives the president the power to enforce immigration laws. Rather, she argued, Biden’s policies need to change.
“It’s up to the president to step up and provide leadership during this time. Let’s change policy, build the wall, secure the border and then fix immigration policy,” Noem said. “But you don’t have to compromise one to achieve the other.”
But Bash continued to defend Biden.
“Governor, President Biden is negotiating,” the CNN host said. “He didn’t want to do any of this. This is what the Republicans want him to do, so he’s negotiating. So, again, why not take the W? Why not take the win? Isn’t there?”

Noem answered with just one question, silencing Bash and creating an awkward silence on CNN’s airwaves.
“What did he do?” the governor asked.
Noem then broke her silence and detailed what Border Patrol agents on the front lines of the border crisis told her last week.
”[Biden has] He doesn’t do anything about actual policy or actually using the tools that he has. Two days ago, I was sitting with people who work for him saying, “This president ties our hands every day.” He won’t let us work. This president, we work for him. We work for the federal government and we hate the federal government. We hate our jobs and we hate what’s going on in this country because he’s not keeping us safe,” she said.
Unfortunately, Bash refused to answer Noem’s questions. Instead, she blamed Congress for her border crisis and promptly ended the interview.
